Satkhira District:
There are different opinions about the naming of Satkhira. Bishnuram Chakraborty was an employee of King Krishna Chandra of Nadia. He purchased the "Burdhan" pargana at an auction. The other name of Burdhan is Brhaddhip. After purchasing Burdhanip, he started living in the present Satkhira village of Satgharia. Many believe that the name Satkhira originated from Satgharia. The actual birth of the Satkhira subdivision was in 1852 as the fourth subdivision of Jessore district. The Presidency Division was formed with five districts of Nadia, 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Jessore, Khulna. Satkhira subdivision was part of this Presidency. In 1786, Jessore district was made and in 1861, Satkhira was given the status of a subdivision under Jessore district. Originally, Satkhira was made an administrative Mahakuma after the suppression of the Blue Rebellion in this region and the oppression of the landlords caused unrest among the farmers. When Khulna district was formed on 25 April 1882, Satkhira was made a subordinate Mahakuma of Khulna. Finally, Satkhira district was formed in 1984. The birthplace of prominent educationist Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah, poet Mohammad Wazed Ali, poet Sakindar Abu Zafar, famous cricketer Md. Mostafziur Rahman and Soumya Sarkar is in Satkhira district. Shrimp of Satkhira district is famous as “white gold”.
District and Sessions Judge Court:
In the past, there was only a Munsif Court in Satkhira district. Satkhira was then the Mahakuma of Khulna district. The Sub Judge Court of Satkhira district was located in Khulna district. Later, in September 1984, the District Judge Court of Satkhira district started functioning. Mr. Nur Uddin Ahmed served as the first District Judge of Satkhira. Presently, Mr. Mohammad Nazrul Islam is serving as the District Judge.
On November 1, 2007, the court was established at the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Satkhira. The journey of this Judicial Magistrate started on 01/11/2007 with 17,789 cases. Presently, 12,973 cases are pending. The first Chief Judicial Magistrate was Mr. Ranu Baliksi Banu. Presently, Mr. Md. Mainuddin is serving as the Chief Judicial Magistrate.
There are 02 (two) buildings including the Satkhira District and Sessions Judge Court Building and the Chief Judicial Magistrate Building.
